As they pulled up they could read the banner in front of the firehouse which read “Deerfield Volunteer Fireman’s Field Days ‘67” in large letters, followed by “June 16 – 18” and “Hawkman’s Rides” in smaller font. In still smaller letters read: “See Deerfield’s all new Tanker # 807 on display!”
A volunteer fireman directed the blue ’65 Chevelle 4-door wagon to the flat field behind the firehouse. The field had been brush-cut from the firehouse to the trees by the creek and from the road to the hill for use as the parking lot since the rides and carnival tents were set up in the regular parking lot around the building.
“Ok kids, stay together. I’m going to be working at the chicken barbeque if you need me for something. You all have your tickets?”
“Yes Mrs. Thompson,” ten year old Tommy spoke up from the backseat. The same age as Sharon, Mrs. Thompson’s da
